I made Jonna a deal in November, that if she could keep her room super clean for 1 month, we would repaint it. She surprised me and did very well! I made good on that promise yesterday, finally. We had the bedding already, it was a hand me down from Great Gma Dolly. We went shopping last Saturday and she spent most of her money on things for her new room, like a blingy lamp, the purple ribbon/jewel curtain, a purple yoga mat (now her Lanie doll can use the smaller pink one) it was .99cents at Menards (after mail in rebate). I bought her the paint and the purple lanterns and I think we had the rest. Oh, she found a few treasures at the goodwill/savers that we of course broke out the spray paint for. MN winters kind of create a challenge for spray painting. First, I made myself a little plastic and cardboard room in the basement, after I killed the rest of my brain cells, I decided to just wait until the next day and then move the cars out of the garage, set up a huge floor of cardboard and run in and out every few minutes. I read that if you are quick and don't let the items and spray paint get cold outside, and then run the items back in to dry that it should work. I think it did! I could also cross exercise off my list for that day too. I was going to paint her closet, but we ran out of paint...plus it needs some organizing. That's my goal this year-to get the kids closets organized and yet be fun to look at.
She wanted a "Before" with all her shopping deals.
In the before picture, this is the gold picture frame. (thanks for the idea Tiffany!)
The green locker is now white. Another trick I read, was if there are parts that you don't want to spray paint, just slather them up really good with Elmer's glue, then spray paint, and after it's dry, peel off the glue. It mostly worked, I think I skimped a little on the glue tho. She's going to make some little magnets to put on it.
So pretty!!! I love it all! The color reminds me of your room in SC.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jess... even her calender! Too cute! Love the pompoms!
ReplyDeletehaha, yes the color and the calendar (not the dollhouse, dolls, etc tho!!) it was funny, after we put everything back it was like all the pink things had turned purple. like the piggy bank and the trolls hair...a lot of things had looked more pink when the room was pink.
ReplyDeleteNice work! Where did you find her cute, little desk? I'm assuming it got a coat of paint. :)
ReplyDeletekatrina-craigslist last summer. =) yes, it got a coat of paint. i should have put a protective coat over it tho since it's in a kids' room...this spring tho!
