The subway map we consulted a few times
One last run around to places we wanted to see....Union Square and Union Sq. Park. This day was finally nice. (maybe a bit hot and humid, but it was the weather we were expecting!)
Joe's, the art of coffee. Heard about this place and had to check it out. Very quaint!
Love this store too. I've only looked at their stuff online, but I love their style. It's how I would do my house if money wasn't an issue.
The main floor of this building is like one big Italy with 12 different Italian restaurants/sections in it.
This was the fruits and vegetable section.
Meat section
Cheese
The Italian Candy section (it's one of the food groups, right?)
Coffee
Chocolate
Jon was interviewed for the "Italian experience"...if he wins, he gets a free trip to Italy. Cross your fingers for us. =)
Sandwiches and Gelato
Breads
More meat
Pizza
Pasta
This park, only the residents around it have a key to enter it.
Here was our (my) oops moment with the subway. We were supposed to be going on a train back to our hotel to get our bags and go to the airport. We did get there, eventually and on time (good thing we cushioned ourselves with a little extra time) by way of Brooklyn. So we got to see a little more of the Brooklyn Bridge (didn't get to walk across it-which I heard was really cool to do tho.) Then the subway ride back was underground-under the river. Tried not to think about that part. We stepped onto 4 of the 5 boroughs. (missed staten island)Our hotel. To the right of it is where the Twin Towers were, and were all the new buildings/memorials are going up.
Saturday morning when we arrived to the area, we noticed a few reporters/camera men and policemen outside (this is just a few blocks from our hotel) and while we were a little curious as to what was going on, we just chalked it up to something that would be in news....Turns out...the night before, Dominique Strauss-Kahn had just moved into one of these apartments because he'd been kicked out of wherever else he was being held. We found this out on Tuesday when we were leaving and saw the now larger crowed gathered here. There's a video online somewhere of a news clip where they interviewed a few residents. Some of them are quite quippy with their remarks. =) We walked by this place so many times because it was right next to one of the subway stops...I wonder if he ever looked out the window and saw us? Weird to think about.
Subway to bus transfer in Harlem....
Goodbye New York!
Your post just made me very hungry!
